ABC NEWS @ 1533 HOURS ON 21 DECEMBER 2024: "A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly striking a South Australian police
officer with a *SWORD* in the state's Upper Spencer Gulf.
Police alleged two officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a
house on High Street at Port Augusta about 10:40am on Saturday.
The man at the residence allegedly confronted the pair and struck a
female officer in her left arm with a *SWORD*.
Police said capsicum spray was used to subdue the man before other
officers arrived.
The injured officer was taken to a local hospital before being flown to
the Royal Adelaide Hospital because of the nature of her injuries.
Police said she had undergone surgery and was recovering in hospital.
"Thankfully the officer's injuries are not life-threatening and measures
are being taken to fully support her and her family," Police
Commissioner Grant Stevens said in a statement.
"Policing is an inherently dangerous occupation because of the nature of
some incidents officers are called to, but an incident of this nature highlights the risk police face on a daily basis serving the community.

interest as this matter progresses through the court system."
Local MP Geoff Brock said he was concerned for the officer's health and
