    I am leasing a server for 7.00 per month running Windows server 2012r2. Today, it went down at least twice, so I created a support ticket. Their response was that the license may have been a trial license that expired. Sure enough, when I logged in, it had expired.

    Tech support gave me a website explaining how to extend the trial for an additional 180 days. A few DOS commands and Voila, it's back again for another 180 days. You can do this for a maximum of 3 years. Who knew?

    I will probably purchase a license well before that. I find that you can always get a good deal on eBay and I have never been burnt.

    For now, I gopefully won't have any more shutdows (fingers crossed).

    Or you could go for Linux which is free, no license fees.

    You could check out lowendbox.com You might be able to get a decent
    deal which includes a license so it's legit.
