Any tips of getting new clients other than word-of-mouth or other means
of advertising? I'm in the process of getting KANSIT WHQ BBS on my
local machine when a new USR v.92 56K modem arrives and I get an additional POTS line to link it to. I've really been enjoying using
older technology. However, I've been looking for a new type of monitor other than a CRT or a regular flat screen; not quite sure what to look for, just something with a different feel with it so it feels like something brand new. I've been used to a tower and flat screen so long that it's time for change. Even been thinking of getting a microPC that can even fit in your pocket; much like RPi but a little bigger and has a lot more features. Amazon has a $30 coupon for a BMAX microPC. Here
are the specs:
Mini PC Celeron 3060(up to 2.48GHz) Windows 10 Mini Computer, 4GB DDR3/64GB eMMC, HDMI/VGA Port, Support M.2_2280 SATA SSD, 4K HD, Gigabit Ethernet, 2.4G/5.0G Dual WiFi, BT4.2
...cost just a little over $100 and has great reviews.
Actually, for me it is just word of mouth, lately I have been getting new users who are coming back and playing BRE, they are probably the same person just looking to get more plays per day but its calls.. I try to do everything I can by adding in things, I have my own InterBBS Door Server, File Server, Website, run pretty much 1 of every BBS for each platform, Mystic for the PC, Enigma for Linux, Image BBS for the C64 (I was one of the programmers of it, back in the 90's and today with the latest release of 3.0) CNet for the Amiga, and I run a Synchro Board because I will be using that as a link to get Newsgroups brought into my boards (They are all networked together via a local FTN network I set up between my boards) other then word of mouth, the Telnet Guide helps, and I send out a blast every 4 days of a BBS ad for all of my boards (Needs to be updated).. That's all I do.. As for Hardware, I was buying Dell off lease machines when I got back into things, I would pay usually $30 plus either free shipping or like $20 shipping for i3 machines. I would install each BBS on it's own machine. Recently I inherited a AMD Ryzen 3.5ghz machine with a few SSD's in it and a 2TB HD along with a 4TB HD, I installed Proxmox on it and now run all of my boards in Virtual Machines.. My current project with all of this is moving all of my BBS VM's off my main network in the house onto their own network (I have a Unifi Dream Router which I just got) and get them also off my Synology NAS I am currently building another Proxmox Server which will handle 3 VM's Server 2019 for my Fax Server, and Print Server. TrueNas which will handle the folder sharing of my File Libraries, and Proxmox backup server which will handle the backing up of all of my BBS'. Currently Synology handles all of that, like I said I want to get all of it off my main network and lock it down so only my in home stuff is on it..
The mini machine you have sounds nice!! I kind of wish I went that way when I got back into things, I have a rack here with all these computers on it and
they are all off now! LOL Wow am I babbling or what?!?! Sorry about that...
