I've just watched (BBC4, March 26) the prog. about the attempt to beat
the high-dive record - basically jumping from space, many miles up.
For once, it was well made - no fake re-dramatisations, no leaping
around all over the place. I would have really enjoyed it, but for ...
... the music. They say if you are _aware_ of music, it's wrong - well,
I definitely was, from fairly near the start. Especially long strings
notes.
I'm sure it's difficult - once someone like me is sensitised to it, I
hear it, however subtle it is. But it definitely spoiled it for me.
[Now the following prog. - taking a picture of a black hole - again, I'm
aware of almost-constant (and thus irritating) music.]
I use subtitles now with no sound, also some narrators on crime
programmes are patronising with silly
accents.
I use subtitles too, but also audio description when available - I don't
have to concentrate as much.
I definitely agree with you about crime programme narrators - certainly
the type using mostly dashcam footage; definitely irritatingly snarky,
all too often (and endlessly repetitive: they show the same shot
multiple times, often _without_ slowing down [so you can see what
actually happened] or cutting off too soon).
