  • Falklands

    Radio 4's Broadcasting House did a piece yesterday morning about the BBC
    man who had a tune around from the amateur radio 'shack' (I think) in BH
    and was hearing people in the Falklands who confirmed that the
    Argentinians had landed.

    At that time official were saying they did not know so he told the newsroom

    Not sure at what point but a friend of mine was hearing reporters
    speaking over the C&W circuit from the Falklands - he had a superb
    location that was miles from the nearest other house and any ToV set or
    mains electricity supply so very quiet electrically.


    (Perhaps I should call it the Malvinas for the benefit of the Guardian
    and its readers).

    You presumably did not read the article in the Guardian for the
    anniversary of the attack on the Falklands.

    Why should you? The Guardian has a "Falkland Islands" sub-section in its
    UK news and even several articles on Falkland Islands holidays. I am a
    regular reader of the Guardian (besides other newspapers) myself and
    would never refer to those nice, chilly islands as "Malvinas"

    No, but I had a look now. There isn't just one article, there are
    several ones in the Guardian on that occasion. Only one of them refers
    to the Malvinas, written by an Argentian guy (in fact their foreign
    minister). So what - freedom of speech, and not necessarily reflecting
    the views of other Guardian authors (such as Patrick Wintour) or of its readers, and definitely not mine. Is it really surprising that the controversial issue is still viewed quite differently in Argentina?

    It is just so typical of the Guardian, always side with Britain's enemies.
