    Surely all motor traffic should have immediately braked to a halt while
    the chav-cyclist was within a hundred yards?

    Of course. Causing multiple nose-to-tail collisions on the road is
    nothing compared to the absolute right of the bicyclist to keep going
    where s/he wants to.
