A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist was killed in a crash.
Dylan Kearns, 25, died from his injuries after a collision with a white Volkswagen Sirocco car in Kirkby, at the junction of Moorgate Road and East Lancashire Road, at about 07:00 GMT, Merseyside Police said.
A 45-year-old man has also been held on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.
He remains in police custody.
In a tribute, Mr Kearns' family said: "Dylan was tragically taken away from all his loving family and partner, Jamie, this morning.
"He was a well-known lad and liked by everyone and he had a contagious smile that was so warm.
"He was so loved and will be missed by everyone."
Det Sgt Kurt Timpson said his "sincere thoughts" were with Mr Kearns' family who were being supported by specially trained officers.
He said it was an ongoing investigation and appealed for any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
Road closures remain in place on East Lancashire Road from Junction 4 of M57 to Coopers Lane.
