  • Ely crash death: Bike was early birthday present for victim

    The electric bike ridden by two teenagers before they were killed in a crash was an early 16th birthday present, family members have revealed.

    The aunt of Harvey Evans, 15, said the teen loved e-bikes and scooters and the present had been bought for his birthday next month.

    Harvey and Kyrees Sullivan, 16, died on Monday evening in Ely, Cardiff.

    The deaths sparked a riot, with cars set alight and police officers attacked.

    About 800 family, friends and members of the wider community of Ely attended a vigil and balloon release for the two boys on Friday evening.

    More than 1,500 people have attended a vigil in honour of two teenage boys killed in an electric bike crash in Ely on Monday.

    Hundreds of balloons, together with fireworks and flares, were released on Friday to remember Harvey Evans, 15, and 16-year-old Kyrees Sullivan, who died moments after they were followed by police.

    Many wore t-shirts showing the victims' faces at the gathering in Snowden Road at the spot where they died.

    A moment's silence was held before the crowd broke out in applause.

    It is understood the police were asked not to attend the vigil.

    CCTV footage of a marked South Wales Police van following the boys circulated on social media, leading to violent clashes and disorder in the Cardiff town.

    I’d like to hear Mason confirm his oft-mentioned views on the punishments
    to be handed out to unlicensed drivers, uninsured drivers, and keepers of untaxed vehicles, but for some reason I suspect he’ll stay rather quiet on those issues.

    Where did the crash happen ?
    100 yards after they went through a set of bollards, where the van
    couldn't follow them.
    They were fourteen seconds ahead of the van when they went through the bollards. I would hazard that the police had zero nada zilch to do with
    the crash.
