It will work vertically and will still be omnidirectional . In terms of performance however they only have a fraction of a dB over a smaller

A horizontal big wheel has a deep null up and down in free space . A
halo has a much less deep null. So if you turn both through 90 degrees,
the null is horizontal - not so bad with the halo, so both are not omnidirectional,with the halo winning . A further complication is the
height above ground . If you are unlucky most of the radiation goes
"up".
I don't think big wheels are meant to be used vertically.

This is G3CWI , an erstwhile user of ukra, testing one. I can't get 3dB
gain out of any of the models unless wimo are using the ground gain
