To allow you to listen to the Algerian third programme? although you
could probably do that just by rotating the set.

Or maybe they#re just saving gas.

There's a strong carrier with faint modulation on 252 here in the near
    of Stranraer.

It's back on again at normal strength here so maybe just scheduled
maintenance? Maybe RTE publish this somewhere on their website.

Yes - it was on yesterday, and it's on now (so don't know when it was
off). BTW, hasn't the Algerian station gone QRT? I'm sure it did some
    time ago.

Radio Algeria does seem to have been off for a while. This site says "Reactivated in May 2022".

    I'll check again tomorrow.

Well, this morning there might be SOMETHING there under RTE, but it's
very weak indeed. Unfortunately, my portable Eton portable radio has
lots of birdies on various frequencies, and there a weak one of about
1kHz on RTE (and its pitch changes as you change the tuning in the 1kHz
steps). However, if Radio Algeria IS there, it's nowhere as strong as it
    used to be.
