As a matter of interest, I first sent my comments to
the "Censored" group, but it has never appeared. The
little tin god obviously doesn't allow adverse comments
about censorship to be read. Dead giveaway or what!

Yes it does, but it is voluntary censorship. If you post to a moderated
group, then you are acknowledging that you agree with the rules of the
group and if you break those rules, then you will be ignored by the
    moderator.

On Usenet, the ultimate power comes from the user. If you post off-topic articles or act like a jerk, I can personally ban you with my killfile.

I think it's a good thing that both options exist. Moderated groups for
those who don't want to deal with trolls and spammers and un-moderated
groups for those who want a little more freedom at the risk of being
ignored by everyone if you make a fool of yourself.

Those who rant about moderation are invariably trolls, those who don’t know how to behave, stalkers, those with no interest in the group topic - beyond using it as a weapon, or worse ( sex offenders etc). In real life, they
tend to be social inadequates and underachievers- they tend to invent
persona / backgrounds/ “tough” * screen names. Others use a string of improbable names. The typical description of the keyboard thug.

Many suffer from substance abuse problems. Financial issues are common -
linked to their under achieving- as are relationship issues. In real life,
they don’t have many genuine friends or good relationships with neighbours.

They are probably employed ( or formerly) in a junior position. Low rank
civil servant, public sector / private sector worker etc, perhaps
constantly changing jobs. Criticising former employers/ colleagues is
common. …… If retired, they may well need to work to top up a pension, claim benefits, struggle, or a spouse still works.

They always blame others for events, including personal failures. They
refuse to accept any responsibility for their life events.

    * often similar to tough characters / heroes from fiction.

for those who don't want to deal with trolls and spammers and
un-moderated groups for those who want a little more freedom at the
risk of being ignored by everyone if you make a fool of yourself.

Those who rant about moderation are invariably trolls, those who
don’t know how to behave, stalkers, those with no interest in the
group topic - beyond using it as a weapon, or worse ( sex offenders
etc). In real life, they tend to be social inadequates and
underachievers- they tend to invent persona / backgrounds/ “tough” * screen names. Others use a string of improbable names. The typical description of the keyboard thug.

Many suffer from substance abuse problems. Financial issues are
common - linked to their under achieving- as are relationship issues.
In real life, they don’t have many genuine friends or good
    relationships with neighbours.

They are probably employed ( or formerly) in a junior position. Low
rank civil servant, public sector / private sector worker etc,
perhaps constantly changing jobs. Criticising former employers/
colleagues is common. …… If retired, they may well need to work to
top up a pension, claim benefits, struggle, or a spouse still works.

They always blame others for events, including personal failures. They
refuse to accept any responsibility for their life events.

Yes it does, but it is voluntary censorship. If you post to a moderated
group, then you are acknowledging that you agree with the rules of the
group and if you break those rules, then you will be ignored by the
    moderator.

I think it's a good thing that both options exist. Moderated groups for
those who don't want to deal with trolls and spammers and un-moderated
groups for those who want a little more freedom at the risk of being
ignored by everyone if you make a fool of yourself.
