Recently, a 'Favourites' icon has appeared on my desktop. I don't want
it. I never use it. It's presence annoys me.
While I can delete it temporarily, when I switch the computer off and
back on again, it reappears. how do I get rid of it for good?

If you right click on it and select "Properties" you will get a dialog
with some information it it that may enable you to track down why it's
there.
