• Fibreglass supplier

From Marland@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jul 2 17:41:49 2025
It was back in the last century that I last needed to do a fabrication job
and it was easy to get the materials ,just popped into a branch of Strand
Glass and purchased what was needed.
They have long gone and the nearest walk in and buy some appears to be a Halfords or Screwfix who only stock small kits at a relatively high cost.
So it looks like it will be an online supplier. Any recommendations ? I
don’t want to build a canoe but need to make a custom shaped water feature that will need more than a Halfords kit.

I've used these people for a few years. They have a huge range of
    products at reasonable prices.

My experience with the online lot has been very good.

    I cannot recommend a specific one - I buy but rarely ...

No current recommendation from me, I am afraid ... but one of my
childhood memories (age 12, perhaps) is being driven by my dad to
Glassplies, I think it was called, near Southport. It was a big old
ramshackle barn in the middle of nowhere which sold everything fibreglass-related.

We mainly went there for supplies to ... yes, build canoes, with the
Scouts. They had one of those great price lists, a bit like K.R.Whiston,
all typewritten & mimeographed, with loads of information about all the products they sold.

    Happy days...

I went there as a child too and later (1996?) for materials to
fibreglass my flat roof. They still had the through-wall extractor fan
on the public side of the trade desk - metal bladed, with no guard and a
notice next to it saying "Keep your bloody fingers out".

I don't specifically remember that, but sounds about right. It was a
fantastic place for a curious kid to wander around. Piles of 'dangerous
crap' everywhere, inside and out ...

They look amazing, bookmarked, thank you.

I'll also offer East Coast Fibreglass Supplies, again good value & range,
poss more old school than exotic. I got an FG roofing kit from them a while back:
