I think I would rather have 3kW from my generator, and several days
worth of mobility from the car :-)

Couldn't you just sit in the car with its aircon on to keep cool? It's a
small space to keep cool especially if you're out of the sun in a
garage. Any idea what sort of energy usage there would be to keep the
inside of the car comfortable?

I doubt it. My engine uses so much fuel when in traffic it ruins any MPG targets I set.

The worst is traffic lights or traffic jams. Stop car lose all kinetic
energy, move car to next stoppage, regenerate its kinetic energy etc.

Ah. I presumed that "My car estimates the fuel load of the aircon"
implied that he'd taken two readings, one with the engine idling and
air-con off, and the second with engine idling and air-con on, and
subtracted the two, to eliminate fuel used simply in keeping the engine
ticking over.
