A post from Velux popped up in my Facebook feed so I took up their offer
of a quote for replacement windows.
I have a chalet bungalow with 6 x Velux windows, probably the biggest ones.
Nobody visited but the quote arrived showing 6 x Windows, 6 x blinds, 6 x >flashing 1 x Installation. 9K in all.
They have just sent a reminder saying they would like me to take pictures:
An internal picture of each window (floor to ceiling)
A photograph of the room where the roof window is located
An external view of your existing windows from the garden or street
An image of the roofing material taken from your existing roof window
A picture of each Data Plate from the window
A photo of the window rotated 180
A picture of the stair access to the room where the windows are situated
(if applicable)
I replied saying I wasn't interested in a quote for off the shelf items
and I wanted a visit so the contractor could check for himself.
Is this the new norm?
When I looked at the Velux site for prices a few weeks ago I got the
price for the window I was interested in and a separate price for
installation along with a list of local approved installers for me to
chose and contact. I assumed that they would assess the job to see if
any extras would be required but I didn't take it any further as I am
not in a position to proceed at the moment.
