Spot the muppet!
I have a treadmill and a static bike for indoor training, to try and
lose a bit of weight while the weather isn't nice enough to go out
cycling and walking. These are controlled and monitored by iFit
software
- amongst other things iFit plays videos of trainers who walk/cycle a
route, with the speed, inclination and (for the bike) magnetic
resistance being varied automatically. It's been several months since
I've used them because of ill health.
The treadmill pairs by Bluetooth to a phone or tablet on which the
iFit software runs. Not unreasonably I thought the bike did as well...
I've just spent the best part of 2 hours trying to work out why
Bluetooth on my tablet couldn't see the bike, in order to pair to it.
When my wife to a brief break while working from home, she put me
straight: the bike has its own screen and runs iFit *internally*, so
it does not pair to a tablet running the software.
And that works fine. Grr :-(
You'd think that googling "pair Nordic Track 22i to iFit" would bring
up some text which says "you do not pair the bike to a tablet running
iFit; instead the bike uses its own screen with iFit running on it",
for those people who haven;t used the equipment for a while and have forgotten the difference between the two devices.
But I had a good workout once I'd solved that little problem.
Personally, I avoid anything that starts with 'i' except for BBC
iPlayer. The idea of using any system this complicated just to monitor
your exercise defeats me.
In my limited experience, Bluetooth is very difficult to get working
if the devices are not similar, i.e, my Nokia mobile 'phone and my
car. I can pair them as new devices, but trying to re-establish
connection on a return to the car the next day is doomed to failure.
They see each other, they attempt to make a connection, but just can't
do it. The reason, I am told, is a difference in the Bluetooth
versions, which cannot be resolved.
Good luck, if you must be bothered with this stuff.
