• Slimming Clock 16?

    From J. J. Lodder@21:1/5 to All on Tue Nov 1 12:04:35 2022
The new iOS 16 has changed and very fat digits for the clock display,
    in an ugly font.

Is there a way to slim them down?
    (preferably to the old font)

from the lock screen, tap & hold, then tap customize, where you can
then change the font, colour, add widgets and even create multiple lock screens (which can auto-rotate based on focus modes).

Yes. It works on the iPhone, but not on the iPad,

Yes. It works on the iPhone, but not on the iPad,

This is iPad OS 16.1 and not iOS 16.1

Should also note that even on the phone you can’t get them back to as slim

It's Apple finally catching-up with the "profiles" that Nokia offered
20-odd years ago. So you can have a work lock-screen (with work related widgets) and a home lock-screen (with home-related widgets), for example.

conceptually, but that's where it ends. there's much more to what apple
    has done.

Perhaps in another 20 years they'll offer an "outdoor mode" and I'll
finally be able to hear the phone ring when it's in a coat pocket!

apple watch will tap your wrist, and depending on the watch and
carrier, the phone can be at home.

another way is by setting up focus modes for an appropriate lock
screen, such as work, sleep, etc.

And which widgets are available from the lock screen?

apple has the usual bunch, including weather, calendar, reminders,

Those I get by swiping left off the app screen, or whtever it is called.

third party app developers have many more.

    I don't get those

Toys. I just added battery charging level to the lock screen because
Apple is incapable of reintroducing it on the iPhone 11's status bar.

not only are they capable, but they actually did add it back.

Unreadable without magnifying glass for people over 25 and therefore
    useless.

first you say they're incapable of doing it, then you say they can do
it, but did a poor job. at least try to be consistent.

not that it matters since either way, it's wrong. the indicator is easy
    to read.

Nothing happens, the phone just shuts down again.

it should stay awake long enough to touch&hold the display after
    unlocking.

Stick a finger on it and nothing happens till the display times out.

going to make any changes just yet. Better the devil you know ;)

he has an iphone se with touch id, which has different dynamics than
    face id.

there's a small lock icon at the top, which should show that it was
just unlocked, although the timing to prevent it from going to the home
    screen is sometimes tricky.
