Anyone upgrading to Ventura on a ‘Silicon’ Mac can take advantage of Howard Oakley’s free lightweight VM tool to create ARM64 Linux VMs. It uses Apple’s built-in hypervisor software. I’ve created a Ubuntu 22.04 server VM and added a KDE Plasma desktop environment. I’ve noticed a few oddities so far, e.g. Some key mapping problems, magnifying glass needed when starting installation. HO is aware of these and other issues.

A bit of competition for Parallels, QEMU and UTM. VMware and (allegedly) VirtualBox are also developing M* compatible apps. There’re are probably other apps under development. Note that UTM includes a copy of and uses
QEMU. HO has also developed an app called Viable to create macOS Monterey
    and Ventura VMs.

b3 released. Now supports shared folders and limited Rosetta 2 support.
I've got shared folders working but yet to try Rosetta on my Ubuntu 22.10
    VM.

Rather than issuing a set of commands on startup, it is of course possible
to enable shared folders by putting an additional entry in /etc/fstab as
you would with say a VMware VM. I’ve passed my findings to Howard Oakley.
