Any malicious code could be hidden - in plain sight - in one's iCloud

Does that make sense to you? Please have a think about this and then

Rod replied to a thread you are watching at Mac-Forums.

Apple iCloud Drive query - can you help, please?
Starting at the beginning you asked, how did the things
(folders/documents) in your iCloud Drive get there?
When I go to my Apple ID in Apple System Preferences I see the below image. Screen Shot 2022-08-29 at 8.07.46 am.png
Note that iCloud Drive is ticked and Optimise Mac Storage is not.

On the right of iCloud Drive is a box marked "Options" when I click that
    I see the window below.

    Screen Shot 2022-08-29 at 8.17.30 am.png
As you can see this is a scrollable window, there are a lot more items
ticked below what you see including Pages, Books, Garage Band and System Preferences but note I do not have Desktop and Documents ticked.

    The resulting iCloud Drive Folder accessed from my Finder looks like this;

    Screen Shot 2022-08-29 at 8.46.31 am.png

It is, essentially an off site (cloud) storage space where I can store
whatever is ticked in the iCloud Drive Options window, anything I choose
to store there from either the Save (to iCloud Drive) box or in the case
where the Desktop and Documents Folders option is ticked in the second
screen shot, anything you save to either the Desktop or Documents folders.

None of this data is accessible by a third party, only by you via your
    Apple ID and password.

Have a look at my screen shots, is this how your iCloud preferences are
setup, if not how are yours different to mine?

Addit; iCloud Drive is like an external hard drive in that you can
delete files or drag them onto your desktop or into another folder, it's
simply off site private (encrypted) storage space. Nothing goes into it
unless you choose to put it there, either by selecting an option in
preferences or physically dragging it into the folder and, no one can
    access it but you.

Can you think of any reason why the thread I started on Mac-Forums has
    been removed?

    LOL
I can think of a few reasons, all related to the author of that thread.

    Then post those reasons.

Let's do a thought exercise. Think back to the numerous times in recent
years when you've asked why your threads keep getting removed. Think
about the answers you've been given each time. Have I jogged your memory
    a bit?

Are you sending your dl'd stuff to your iCloud acct.? Did you drag those >>> things that are shown in your imgur image *out* of the iCloud Download
folder so they'd be visible where they are? I ask because you often
don't tell the whole story (which raises red flags), that, and I can't
think of an alternative that would've cause this unless you placed them
    there.

As I understand it, your 'stuff' is stored locally unless and until
there is need to offload it to cloud storage.

What FTR says is not strictly true!

I'd like to believe Apple hasn't changed anything in that respect.

It would appear that they have!

Malware COULD be stored in the iDrive too!

    See: Comment "1" here:-

Please discuss if you have concerns.
