Can anyone reading here answer the question posed?

    What question?

Should one use Norton on an Apple computer?

Save your money and your computer. I recall many tales of woe of people
who simply could not remove every tentacle that Norton left behind. This
was on m$ crap. Norton would have hundreds of registry entries and some
could not be removed. Every time you started your computer you would get
a reminder that some component of Norton was either not working or
    properly installed.

    Reluctant response here, but…

I recently (this week), installed the Norton software, as it was being
offered free as part of my Plusnet broadband plan.

It’s complete crap. As has been the case for Norton, pretty much since the old days when they made Norton Utilities for ‘Classic’ OS, which was excellent. Once they started developing for OSX, they never really got it right.

The security software I tried this week, was very slow to scan, and logged
out my iMac on its own before it finished the scan. The I-device versions
just take over everything. The password manager is very basic, and can’t import any existing data.

This was all after a weeks long wait, as Norton and Plusnet decided whose
fault it was that no-one could register the software.

It took me a couple of hours to delete it all and cancel the account.

I’ll stick with my original plans for security and privacy (using freely available and open source products).

Worse than that. It is malware because it makes changes to your system

Even these are malware kind of stuff. Fine tune your Mac OS. End of

I’m pretty certain NU came pre-installed on my first Mac in 1994. It seemed an excellent product at time to a naive first time Mac user. But by the
time or even before OS X appeared it was in decline and a lot of the functionality was gone.

    What question?

Should one use Norton on an Apple computer?
Save your money and your computer. I recall many tales of woe of people
who simply could not remove every tentacle that Norton left behind. This was on m$ crap. Norton would have hundreds of registry entries and some could not be removed. Every time you started your computer you would get
a reminder that some component of Norton was either not working or
    properly installed.

    Reluctant response here, but…

I recently (this week), installed the Norton software, as it was being offered free as part of my Plusnet broadband plan.

It’s complete crap. As has been the case for Norton, pretty much since the old days when they made Norton Utilities for ‘Classic’ OS, which was excellent. Once they started developing for OSX, they never really got it right.

I used Norton Utilities on Mac and DOS/Windows in the 1990s. It worked well.
    I tried Norton Anti-Virus on the strength of how well Norton Utilities did;
it was a disaster. Starting around 2001 Norton Utilities got worse and worse and worse, and I ended up removing all things Norton from all machines.

The security software I tried this week, was very slow to scan, and logged out my iMac on its own before it finished the scan. The I-device versions just take over everything. The password manager is very basic, and can’t import any existing data.

I’d never use the password managers built into general-purpose utility packages. They all appear to me to be afterthoughts, there mostly to check
off a sales point. Get a dedicated password manager or, on Macs, use
    Keychain.

This was all after a weeks long wait, as Norton and Plusnet decided whose fault it was that no-one could register the software.

It took me a couple of hours to delete it all and cancel the account.

I’ll stick with my original plans for security and privacy (using freely available and open source products).

    good choice.

I must admit, sorry guys, I did find the responses here just a tad predictable, and I'm ashamed to say, actually amusing.

I've certainly nothing else to add to the responses from the troll brigade.

My posting was only intended as a bit of info to anyone actually

Yeah that seems to mirror my experience with Macs in the same time frame. I never used it on PCs using MS's own offerings and/or (dare I mention it) ClamWin.

Indeed, I use a combination of Keychain and Bitwarden. If I could find a sensible way to import everything to Keychain, I'd probably just use
that, although having Bitwarden is also handy for the times I use a
    non-Apple app (such as Firefox).

This was all after a weeks long wait, as Norton and Plusnet decided whose

Your header is more than funny and undermines your credibiltiy:

I can forge headers, write l33t and read HEX. You can't even spell
    huggybear.

Thank you for your input. It has been a privilege to watch you wasting >everyone's time discussing a corpse more smelly than crap. As yet its
state as worse/better than poop has not been passed down to us lesser
mortals and cats. This is vital information. Please let us know. I
realise poop comparator testing is complex and time consuming so don't
be ashamed to admit it's beyond your present capabilities and resort out

No Pooh, but ad dickus Joerg is on topic,
