No, I disagree, the old Norton Utilities that I used in OS 7-9 was a

that time.

it may have been intentional, but it was a mistake, you did not fully understand just how bad norton actually is, which you quickly found

The security software I tried this week, was very slow to scan, and logged out my iMac on its own before it finished the scan. The I-device versions just take over everything. The password manager is very basic, and can’t import any existing data.
This was all after a weeks long wait, as Norton and Plusnet decided whose fault it was that no-one could register the software.

I understand .... and agree!
I started my iMac in Recovery Mode https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl338cf9a8/mac
.... then erased my hard drive, reinstalled macOS Monterey Version 12.4
and then used Migration Assistant to transfer data from before Norton
had been installed. A Time Machine back-up is invaluable! ;-)

Over on the Windows side, Norton was good for maybe a year after Peter
Norton sold it to... whoever it was. CA maybe? They completely messed up
the entire thing, ditched all the useful tools, and it became a
lumbering behemoth sucking all system resources.
Except! For a brief period in maybe 2000-2003 where the corporate
version was actually lean and mean. If you could blag a license for it,
it was the best of the possible choices.
Then it went to crap too.
I’ll stick with my original plans for security and privacy (using freely >> available and open source products).
I'm still running with the stuff built in to the OSes plus a (free) Malwarebytes run if I ever feel suspicious of anything. As I have been

I must admit, sorry guys, I did find the responses here just a tad predictable, and I'm ashamed to say, actually amusing.
I've certainly nothing else to add to the responses from the troll brigade.
My posting was only intended as a bit of info to anyone actually
interested in a bit of software experience on an Apple system.
I used Norton Utilities on Mac and DOS/Windows in the 1990s. It worked well. I tried Norton Anti-Virus on the strength of how well Norton Utilities did; it was a disaster. Starting around 2001 Norton Utilities got worse and worse and worse, and I ended up removing all things Norton from all machines.

I’d never use the password managers built into general-purpose utility packages. They all appear to me to be afterthoughts, there mostly to check off a sales point. Get a dedicated password manager or, on Macs, use Keychain.
