Much like a lot of Windows software

I’ve been a GC user since 1994. Currently on 11.6. The only apps which >>> I’ve had anywhere nearly as long are Word and Excel.

I’ve often wished that there was something similar for Windows.

I tried to use the GIMP on Windows a while ago.

The guys behind the GIMP seem to be under the impression that they’re competing with Photoshop. They’re not. They’re not even close.

    True.

They also seem to think that they can design a usable user interface. They’re wrong about that, too.

    Absolutely.

As I indicated my experience with it was very brief and I’ve no intention
    of using it again.

    understatement of the century.

the gimp lacks key features photoshop had 25+ years ago and according
to its roadmap, will never implement them.

They also seem to think that they can design a usable user interface.
    They¹re wrong about that, too.

photoshop's user interface is designed by artists, photographers, etc.

the gimp's user interface has no design. just a bunch of features
stuffed into menus and windows, with some sort of arrangement that
    might make sense to someone.

perhaps the biggest problem is the gimp is *slow*, much slower than
photoshop on the exact same hardware. there's a good reason for that,

I said I wouldn’t but just for the hell of it I installed Gimp on my Linux system yesterday. It’s just as bad as I remember and your comments are spot on. I soon did a sudo apt remove although purge might have been wiser! Hopefully my sanity has returned ;)
