• Delete someone from Photo's People and Pets - macOS or iOS (Sequoia)

From Ian McCall@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jun 16 12:24:40 2025
Am trying to clean up some miscategorised things. I want to delete some
people from People and Pets but can find no option to do this anymore.
Instead, there’s “Hide this person”. I don’t want that - the visual effect would be the same but it’s actually just completely incorrect data,
    am looking to delete it.

Is there any way of fully deleting a Person (capital P...) from the People
    and Pets section?

    Thanks,
    Ian

    No, Ian.

You will have to delete the image(s) from your main 'Photos' Library.

Doesn’t seem to be an obvious way. The only option I can see are ‘hide’, as
well as a ‘don’t feature…’ option. I’ve also tested and found you can delete the name in the name box. They’ll then appear at the bottom of the grid as an unnamed person, who you can then choose to exclude from the
    person suggestions.

One *HAS* to delete unwanted images from the main Library in Photos.

Indeed, but that’s not what Ian wants to do.

What you’re suggesting is unnecessary, and misinforming him.

I don't see anything about pets on my Mac.

Does it work to tell it that each of the photos is not that person?
Or are there too many for that to be practical?

You have to create a bespoke album via Add to Album when viewing a photo.

I accept your criticism. I apologise.

What I said is over-kill but it does remove ALL copies of an image, no
matter /where/ it has been put on an Apple computer.

Well, no, that’s not accurate either. Deleting photos in a Photos Library only removes them from the library view, and puts them in the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder. You then either need to wait 30 days, or manually clear
the folder to completely remove them. Any other images, or copies of the
same images, elsewhere on your device are handled separately.

It does, however, remove all copies of anything that is synced to other
devices if you use iCloud storage.
