I’ve just done this - the jrounalist had hassle, but for me it worked instantly. Bit annoying having to sign out of the Apple TV and HomePods manually, plus I’ve got some other devices I’ll need to do that with as well (smart TV in a different location, car with Apple Music and Apple
Podcast logins). But...completely minor. Am one step closer to getting down
to just a single Apple ID.

Latest one is finding out that once you’ve migrated purchases, you get a message from your ’secondary’ account (the one you’d been using for purchases): “this account can no longer be logged in to”. Hmm. Trouble is that I’ll need to be able to log into it to request deletion I think. One
for support another day.

Had three Apple IDs for various reasons. Have wanted to get down to one for -ages-. Managed to get the third one deleted recently, although it’s not a quick process (I think they give you six weeks after requesting, something
like that). If I can get this second one done too - great.

So, aftermath.

First off the good news - all purchases transferred, zero hassles. All good.

Now the bad: ...but you can’t delete the old AppleID. It basically goes
into a locked, mothballed state and iff you go to request a deletion it warns that “all purchase migrations will be undone”. Going to follow up with support to check if my understanding is right here, but looks like you need
to keep the ID around. Don’t have to actually use it though.

Finally, the HomePods didn’t switch as I’d thought and to be honest I don’t know how I eventually fixed it. Combination of restarting, signing in/out, setting up a default HomePod Account (as opposed to user)...something eventually did it but no idea what. Odd that the TV had no such issues.

Overall a success, but irritated I might need to keep that old account in status forever though.

Yes. I was a bit surprised that when I tried updating apps on the iPhone I was asked for the password for the *old* AppleID. It seems happy enough now, but I’m keeping a wary eye on it.
