Regularly, I will have to sit and watch Usenapp spin a beachball for several seconds; I can't see why. I sometimes find it quite laggy, when typing for example.

Not seen that. I occasionally come back to it to find it spinning its
cogs attempting to download a new batch but not actually doing anything, which needs a restart.

Sometimes it seems to get stuck trying to download items, but it doesn't
time out and there doesn't seem to be a mechanism to abort that process.
