I'm *still* using Mojave on my 27" iMac. (It works; this old dog hasn't had to learn new tricks, at Apple's behest, in quite a while.) (Famous last words...)

A day or so ago the Finder started adding a file preview to the files listed any new folder window that I open. (I always use List View, and make it the default - Cmd-J.)

The preview of the file is an area on the right of the file list, within the Finder's window. I have never seen this before in all my born days (i.e.since c.1991). I must have accidentally used a shortcut key combination.

I can't find a way to turn off this irritation: does anyone (like: all of you? Probably!) know how I can do that?

Thanks Bruce - that's the first thing I tried! But there must be subtleties with the application of that option which I haven't discovered yet.
What I do know is that if I try switching _off_ icon preview in an affected folder (Cmd-J), then I cannot save the option as a default: the "Save as default" button is immediately greyed out, and won't turn black again unless I switch the icon preview back _on_ again.

OK - so no more of a problem than a mosquito in the room ... :-)

Is your problem with "icon preview" or "file preview"?

The former shows a thumbnail of the file's contents in the icon, the
latter shows a separate preview pane. I thought you were referring to
file preview originally but now I'm not so sure.
