• Cinema display side biutton

From Liz Tuddenham@21:1/5 to All on Fri May 10 14:27:22 2024
The side button on the Cinema display would bring up the
"Shut-down/Sleep" menu when it was connected to the Mac Pro but it has
ceased to function with the Mini. There is one connector (Firewire) on
the display cable for which the Mini doesn't have a socket.

Is it worth getting an adaptor to plug this into a USB port or is there
    some other factor at work?

I thought* the late 2012 Mac Mini had a Firewire 800 port. And, iirc,
your Cinema display has a Firewire 400 port. So I would suggest that
what you actually need is a Firewire 400 to 800 adaptor (which is just a
cable with the appropriate ends, no electronics involved).

As to "is it worth getting"? Well, the video camera and microphone will
also work as well as the side button.

[*] Well, according to the pictures found through Google

Of course it has. Just look at the specs.
It was quite useful on the < 2012 models,
but with the introduction of USB-3 on the 2012 model
it make less of a difference.

    Yes. Block adaptors also exist.

Who is still video conferencing with a 2012 mini?
