  • IOS and new mail account

    I'm trying to add a new mail addy and host to SWMBO's iPhone. The host uses SSL/TLS for SMTP mail, but not for POP3 mail. It doesn't seem possible to set an account up on the iPhone this way - or have I missed something? Do I have
    to set up an account for inbound mail only, as not SSL, and set up a second account for outbound mail, set as using SSL/TLS?

    It used to be possible to initially enter some invalid server settings and
    you would then be prompted to configure the account manually. It’s many
    years since I did this though.

    Why not just use IMAP?

    POP is hopelessly outdated and many providers have shut down their
    POP-servers already. Use IMAP4.

    It does what I, and a number of other users, want; what's outdated about
    that?

    POP is dead. You better accept it. In the years ahead it will disappear inevitably. POP has too many disadvantages.

    imap does everything pop does, plus a lot more.
