Using macOS Ventura only Hogwasher seems capable of filtering out
messages based on message body content. Unison doesn't run too well on Ventura so I'm dismissing that for now. The iOS / iPadOS app Newstap
will also perform this function and it can be made to work on Silicon
Macs.
Does anyone of any other macOS usenet clients that will do this?
Failing that I guess I shoukl look for a Windows or Linux client that
will run via Crossover/Wine/MacPorts etc.

Are you using Usenapp?

Yes but I don’t think it supports filtering on content?

Thunderbird can do this on all platforms but only for e-mails. It does
not make too much sense for Usenet. Quite often the messages are not downloaded or only when clicked. Only then a client is in the position
to search the body of a message.
What type of content is it felt necessary to filter?

Ah, ok. Just remembered Pineapple
<https://platinumball.net/pineapple/news/macosx/> and gave it a try. It
works (seems to work) on Mojave here but may be 32bit I guess. Started downloading UCSM posts from 2008(!) from an Astraweb account I used to
use. Seems I last used it around 7 or 8 years ago. I prepped a message
to send but it disappeared and seems to maybe have some other odd behaviour... Don't think it'll do what you want though (pity).

Filtering can be done quite easily in this particular case. Trolls
almost always show stable patterns as far as the headers are concerned.

Yes the last released version 0.9 is a 32-bit Intel app but I might try
it out on my Mojave VM just for the heck of it!
