  • PC case slot blanking plates - solid or ventilated?

    Having shut down the PC and disconnected all the cables, I am now doing
    some long overdue fettling.
    CPU cooler does need more stuff between it and the CPU.
    Various cards have been taken out over time.
    I am looking at blanking plates and have a choice of solid or ventilated.
    Pros and cons of each?

    There is a vent in the side of the case to allow cooling air in, and a fan
    at the back of the case.
    There is also a fan built into the PSU, of course.

    I haven't located my box of spare blanking plates (although I have found a
    box of screws) so the easiest route is to buy some.
    They are cheap as chips.

    So - solid or ventilated?

    In your case (pun intended) I doubt it will make any difference.

    In your case (pun intended) I doubt it will make any difference.



    I use a couple of layers of aluminum foil and painters tape to plug the
    holes. I don't worry about airflow as long as the fan pushing out the
    air is not having problems. Usually plenty of places built into the
    cases to allow air in.
