As mentioned a while back, my deskunder (this system) is slow over the Gb network for no apparent reason.
AFAICR this didn't used to be the case.

Anyway, I've updated to the latest Intel drivers (I think) and that
doesn't seem to have cured it.
The port is an Intel I211 on the motherboard.

The obvious next step is to fit a separate card and see how that goes.

I've tested the Ethernet back to the Internet and with my new Dell XPS I
can get the full 270(ish) Mb/sec. Same as for other ports on the network.
So I must conclude that it is this PC which has the problem.

Next step is the choice of card.

About £12 for a known name Gb card.
About £25 for a known name 2.5Gb card.

The wiring will take 2.5Gb should I ever update the switches (as discussed earlier) so is it worth getting the newer standard?

The GA-990X-Gaming SLI-CF has PCIe Gen2 so should easily support 2.5 Gb/
sec for a network card (I think!).

As an aside, I have an Anker USB gigabit Ethernet adapter and this system
can't find drivers for it (it lists as a CD drive) but again this works at
full speed with my XPS.

Nothing is easy.

So fast or superfast?

I said earlier I was out of practice!

The device identifies as a CD because it comes with driver install on
board.

I could put in a small 2.5 Gb/sec switch at not massive cost, but (as
discussed a while back) this would only be purely for a small subset of
local devices which don't currently talk to each other a lot.

I am looking to the future when Gbit speeds over the Internet are common
(say 3-5 years?) and I can then use them.

Basically just upgrading to faster speeds when something wears out (as did
my old router).

So I would expect to run at 1Gb/sec for the moment.
Just wondering if it worth upgrading now to a faster capability.
