S.N. Goenka is doing incredible work with teaching Buddhist meditation
in prisons. See the documentaries "The Dhamma Brothers", "Change From Inside" and "Doing Time, Doing Vipassana". S.N. Goenka has also set
up many Buddhist Meditation centers all over the globe, even in the
United States where other meditation organizations claim that they
need to charge stiff fees. S.N. Goenka's Meditation retreats are
done on a donation basis, survive very well and provide opportunities
to learn Buddhist meditation where those opportunities would otherwise
not exist.
Despite all of this, I have heard "grumblings" about Goenka's
meditation retreats on the internet.
If you have attended at least one of Goenka's mediation retreats and
stayed to the end I would be interested in hearing why you have a
problem with that organizaiton.
Goenka's vipassana is really phenomenal .
It is no nonsense course with strict regimen , may be little difficult for half hearted folks.
Some signed up as being free , but could not survive 10 days , might gossip , rather than take the responsibility .
