    Most people have never heard of the great Mississippi floods of 1927. Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly black, were displaced. The Red Cross and National
    Guard set up camps, segregated by race, and the camps for blacks can only be called concentration camps. Whites came and went from their camps unhindered, but blacks couldn't leave, except to go do forced labor for white-owned farms and businesses. The conditions in the black camps were deplorable, with barely edible food, unclean water and no medical care.
