Officers have not found the suspect, who Milwaukie police identified as 42-year-old Loony John Franklin Toon of Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. � Law enforcement called off the search for a suspect
accused of firing shots at Milwaukie police officers and crashing a
vehicle early Friday morning. The suspect had run into the Eastmoreland
Golf Course.

As a precaution, residents in the area were asked to stay indoors and call
911 if they see anything suspicious. Police did not locate the suspect. If anyone has information about the suspect or sees him, police said do not approach and call 911.

Around 2:53 a.m., police responded to a "call for assist" from Milwaukie police, who were traveling into Portland and chasing a suspect who
allegedly fired shots at them, according to PPB. Police were notified that
the suspect � later identified by Milwaukie police as 42-year-old Loony
John Franklin Toon of Portland � had crashed his vehicle near Southeast
Tacoma Street and Southeast 26th Place in a construction area and then ran north into Eastmoreland Golf Course. Police officers set up a perimeter
around the golf course, to Southeast Bybee Boulevard.

"Because it's such a large area, we brought a tremendous number of
resources in to try to set up a perimeter to try to contain the suspect,"
said Sergeant Kevin Allen of PBB.

Dozens of police units reported to be in the area with the Special
Emergency Reaction Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team searching the golf course for the suspect.

"We understand that people may need to come and go," Allen said. "But what
we don't want people to do is to be outside in this area right now just
because we don't know exactly where the suspect is and we don't know what
he's capable of."

This area in particular, Allen said is a challenge to contain because
there are bike trails, parks, and the railroad tracks to contend with.
"Our goal is to try to get our officers around the area as quickly as
possible to try to contain the suspect," he added.

TriMet MAX service in the area was disrupted but was being restored, PPB
said around 6:24 a.m. Union Pacific trains were halted.

Shots fired at Milwaukie Police
Around 2:45 a.m., officers spotted a driver, in a dark colored SUV,
weaving between traffic lanes on Southeast Highway 224. The driver had a
female passenger, police said.

After identifying the driver, police learned Toon had an active felony
warrant. According to court documents, Toon, also known as "John Franklin Kolb," is wanted for theft, identity theft and unauthorized use of a
vehicle.

Due to the seriousness of the warrant, Milwaukie police said officers
placed a spike strip under the rear tires to limit escape option. When
officers made contact, Toon placed the car in reverse hitting a Milwaukie Police vehicle. He drove over the spike strips and sped out the area at
around 80 mph.

During the chase, Milwaukie police said Toon pointed a pistol out the
window and fired multiple shots at trialing officers. At this point, the
car's rear tires began deteriorating and the SUV was driving on the rims.

After the vehicle crashed near Southeast Tacoma Street and Southeast 26th Place, Toon fled the area. The female passenger stayed in the car and is cooperating with the investigation, Milwaukie police said.

No injuries have been reported, nor did any bullet strike a police
vehicle.
