LAKELAND — A 19-year-old Lakeland man was arrested Tuesday and charged
with sexual battery after he was identified in a photo depicting two men
having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
The victim’s mother found a photograph depicting her daughter performing
a sex act on Tarek Wearing, 1315 W. 14th St., Apartment J117, while an unidentified man had intercourse with the victim, according to a Polk
County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.
While the second suspect's identity is unknown, detectives are following
leads to identify him, said Carrie Horstman, PCSO spokeswoman. The
victim told deputies she didn't know who the second suspect was, but she
gave a description of him, Horstman said.
The 13-year-old victim told deputies Wearing started to touch her inappropriately, and when she asked him to stop, he moved closer to her
and pulled her pants down. Wearing then got on top of the girl and
attempted to have sex with her.
The victim tried to push him away, but, according to the affidavit,
Wearing forced her to perform sexual acts against her will, according to
the affidavit.
Deputies interviewed Wearing on Tuesday, and he said he didn’t force the 13-year-old girl to do anything against her will, according to the
affidavit.
Based on the victim’s statements, interviews and the photograph, Wearing
was charged with sexual battery for engaging in sexual activity with a
person older than 12 and younger than 16. Wearing is being held in the
Polk County Jail with no bond, Horstman said.
