SEATTLE A 15-year-old suspect is facing possible charges after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle into three pedestrians in the University District Friday afternoon, leaving them seriously injured.
Prosecutors revealed in court the teen was also seen attempting to run
people over in the area about 30 minutes before Friday's hit-and-run
incident.
According to a hospital spokesperson, one of the pedestrians seriously
injured, a 21-year-old man, remains in serious condition at Harborview
Medical Center, while the remaining two victims, a 20-year-old woman and another 21-year-old man, are in satisfactory condition.
Court records indicate the suspect has prior convictions for five felonies
and one gross misdemeanor. According to the Department of Child, Youth and Families (DCYF), a warrant was issued for the teen's arrest on Feb. 11
when he failed to report to his parole officer. According to the King
County Prosecuting Attorney's Office (KCPAO), the teen has previous
convictions for burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, displaying a weapon,
and robbery after robbing two businesses in Seattle.
If convicted on all charges related to this latest case, the teenager
could face a sentence of six to eight years in detention.

The damaged white Kia Soul involved in the incident was reported stolen
early Friday morning from a Meadowbrook residence. In court Monday, the suspect's father questioned the evidence against his son during a court appearance via Zoom, saying, "The police came to my house, he was not
behind the wheel of the car, he didnt have the car keys on him, so how
was he in possession of a stolen vehicle?"
"I have a lot of evidence in front of me where there are witnesses at the
scene who observed him in the car at an initial incident where its
alleged he essentially tried to run someone down, and its alleged further
that a few minutes later he did hit three individuals who were in a
crosswalk, so there are two separate incidents," King County Superior
Court Judge Joe Campagna responded, ordering the teen remain in custody.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing someone in the same vehicle driving recklessly in the U-District.
"The gentleman in the white car swerved around our stopped vehicle and
almost hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk, then he proceeded to speed
through every stop sign and crosswalk going through the university
campus," Matthew Ladwig, who was working on the UW campus Friday, said.
Ladwig told KOMO News he tried to chase down the vehicle or get a license plate, but the suspect got away.

University of Washington police are also investigating a hit-and-run crash around the same time involving a vehicle matching the suspect's
description near Stevens Way and Grant Lane, which left another vehicle damaged. However, they have not yet linked this incident to the same
teenage suspect.
Despite the severity of the alleged crimes, King County prosecutors stated
that the teen could not be charged as an adult due to his age and the
crime committed.
"We can't charge it because of the way state lawmakers have written the
law," Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office, said. "If you're 15 and accused of vehicular assault,
you can't be charged as an adult."
The 15-year-old is now facing possible charges for vehicular assault,
assault and possession of a stolen vehicle related to this latest hit-and-
run incident.
