British Member of Parliament David Davis is urging the British government
to strengthen its vitamin D supplementation program for people at-risk of
COVID-19 following an impressive precedent set by Andalusia in Spain.
Speaking before the House of Commons on Thursday, Davis said that Britain
should follow the lead of Andalusia, which distributed calcifediol, a
vitamin D supplement, to care home residents last November. Since then,
the Spanish region's COVID-19 deaths dropped by 82 percent.
Sounds like they're peddling patent medicine, good for whatever ails ya'...
Yes but due to actinic sensitive and chronic illness my doctor
checked my vitamin D levels and they were down and I ended up taking
4000 iu per day. I have not noticed improvement in those areas that
led to this problem but 4k iu puts me back at the levels a normal person
might enjoy.
So the experience of Andalusia may not be replicable but it is
a cheap vitamin supplement and those at risk should try to get their
levels tested and follow a sensible doctor's advice. This followed
studies in the USA that found the approved levels of vitamin D
supplementation were set too low. I guess the levels were low because
so many people have moved to indoor work rather than toiling in
the sunlight.
Pale and wan but still tossing in my 2 cents worth.
