More than 800 earthquakes have rattled Washington's Mount Rainier
in the last 30 days, sparking fears that one of America's most
dangerous volcanoes is coming to life.

More than half of the quakes, around 500, struck in July alone,
with one intense swarm unleashing over 400 tremors in just 12 hours.

    . . .

If that thing pops it could set a whole new
standard for mass casualties. Think Pompeii
    times 1000+ ...

General activity all around the Pacific rim
seems to be increasing. More quakes, more
volcanoes. The past 100 years seem to have
    been an unusually quiet period.

And now less funding for early detection and warning (like all the
other 49 states) and less government aid after a disaster because
    Washington is a blue state.

Locals remember when Mt Adams shook and
trembled for awhile, then went dormant again.

Washington has evacuation plans they hope will save most people if it
    erupts.

No doubt they have the mountain saturated with seismographs. They can
follow where earthquakes start. They are watching if the source is
rising which can mean magma pushing rocks aside as it rises to the sky.

    Trump cuts off weather predictions,
    Trump cuts off earthquake predictions,
    Trump cuts off hurricane predictions,
    Trump cuts off tornado predictions,
    Trump cuts off flood predictions.

I recall flying out of Seattle over Mount Helena after 1980 eruption
seeing flattened trees on the ground. Would have been devastating if
    people were around.

Which is possibly why Washington has evacuation plans. Whether they will suffice remains to be seen.
