    . . .

Have seen this on a few sites. Trump claims that he
and probably RFK have convinced Coca Cola to dump
the nasty "high-fructose corn sugar" and shift back
to proper cane sugar. HFCS has been racking-up rather
a lot of negative reviews of late ... it is far more
likely to make people really fat, diabetic and
generally fucked that good old sucrose. The bodily
metabolism is NOT the same for this stuff even
    though it tastes like sucrose.

HFCS is a bit *cheaper* that real sugar, which is
why so many switched to it over the years.

    But, general verdict, DON'T.

People ate a LOT of sucrose for many decades but
it did not turn them into the waddling BLIMPS we
    now see so commonly.

Cavities ... sucrose isn't any worse. The Brits
tend to use glucose which *may* be worse on the
teeth (all the TEA finishes the evil job :-)

Most sucrose is obtained from sugarcane and
sugar-beets. Both are grown in abundance in
    the USA.

Now Trump himself ... he loves his Diet Coke.
The artificial sweeteners in 'diet' drinks have
their own large, and getting larger, medical
    profile. Again, if possible, DON'T.

Rather doubt Trump is going to change at his age,
but for the younger set, just DON'T do the
artificials. The diabetes profile is similar
however, worse with the HFCS/artificials, special
cells detect 'sweet' and adjust insulin levels
whether 'sweet' is from sugar or some other chemical.

About 10 years ago I had to lose a lot of weight
because several important numbers were going the
wrong way. This meant shifting to a rather low-cal
95% keto diet ... open sandwich, eat just the meat,
unbreaded Chik and chicken nuggets, that kind of
thing - like 700 cals for nearly a year.

There were TWO kinds of "Diet Coke" at the time.
Both were similarly fake-sweet but used different
chems. I remember distinctly how the newer one
would almost put me under the table ... caused a
major blood-sugar drop. Again it's because the
'sugar detector' cells got turned on, caused an
insulin surge, but there was no real sugar to
metabolize. Switched to unsweet tea for awhile
until my teeth turned kinda brown. Dentist
was VERY happy when I quit drinking that :-)

Hey, went from 230 lbs to 155 ... size 42 to
    33. Not super pleasant, but I'd be dead or
far worse if I hadn't done it then. See way
too many my age in wheel chairs, or who have
no legs anymore. In a sense, sugar, esp the
fake sugar, IS the most destructive force in
    the universe.

Ah, about two years ago, saw a news team
in some smallish (W.Virginia?) town that'd been
cut off by floods knocking down the bridges. They
covered a town meeting. Almost EVERYONE there
was positively ROUND - like roll-down-the hill
round, really. They were FREAKIN' because the
cheeze puffs and Doritos supply was cut off.
Probably at 7900 cals a day in HFCS. Even mil
MREs could not feed their cal addiction.

I neither wrote nor quoted this in this thread about high fructose
corn syrup. Why did you inject this irrelevancy and worse, why are
you quoting it as coming from me?

Either way, this is yet another example of the corrupt government siding
with corporations instead of protecting the citizens.
EU, Canada and other countries have restriction on certain known to be
    harmful to humans, ingredients.
    The USA needs to follow.

Oh and one more tidbit, the government "food pyramid" derived via the scientific
community, is a major cause of obesity, the onset of Type 2 Diabetes and poor health in general.

Like Trump using the Oval Office to
make a commersial for GOYA beans, a key
    Trump donor?

Like Trump using the White House
lawn to make a commercial for Tesla,

    No corrumption there, no sirree.

    Did you inject yourself with
    bleach, as Trump advised?

There is no discernable difference in the taste of cane sugar and HFCS,
and their effect on the human body.

HFCS has been used in food products for many years with no scientific
    proof of harmful effects.

This isn't conspiracy we're talking about, it's chemistry.

If Coca-Cola follows Trump/RFK's quack science (doubtful, in the end)
it will mean a huge hit on the economy, for American corporations and
farmers. Also take several years to implement considering the amount of
soda that is sold in the US.

The US has no capability to grow enough cane sugar for the soft drink
industry; most of it is imported from Brazil and other countries.

Which means the price of soft drinks would go up considerably.

Not that Pres. Dickhead and basket case RFK give a shit.

Compounded, of course, by the tariffs that the US has on sugar:

"The basic in-quota tariff is 1.4606 cents per kilogram (0.663 cents per
pound) for raw sugar and 3.6606 cents per kilogram (1.660 cents per
pound) for refined sugar. Most countries qualify for an exemption from
these tariffs under either the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
program, which requires periodic renewal by Congress, or under a free
trade agreement, which provides a permanent waiver. The out-of-quota
tariff is 33.87 cents per kilogram (15.36 cents per pound) for raw
sugar, and 35.74 cents per kilogram (16.21 cents per pound) for refined
    sugar."

TL;DR: at roughly $2 for a 5lb bag retail, the +80 cents per bag is a
    100% tax rate at wholesale.

    Nope.
