Air India pilot asked why fuel had been cut off moments before
    fatal crash

Highly-anticipated report reveals shocking words from crew
shortly before the Boeing ploughed into student hostel

An Air India pilot asked why the doomed plane’s fuel had
been cut off moments before it crashed.

A highly-anticipated report released by Indian authorities
just after midnight on Saturday said initial findings
indicate switches controlling fuel flow to the jet’s
two engines were turned off, leading to a catastrophic
    loss of thrust at take-off.

    . . .

Ummm ... accident ? Suicide run ? Terrorist intent ?

There had been a case where somebody accidently moved against some switches and flipped some to the off-state.

    PS
I just did hear about it on CNN,

I think the co-pilot did not switch of those switches, denied that and switched them on again after the pilot asked why he did switch them off..
    END of investigation?

    I'd say, BEGINNING of investigation!
An act of sabotage, related perhaps to the recent India Pakistan conflict, cannot be ruled out,
Is it possible to position those switches so start vibration will flip them into the off position?
Maybe with the help of some (mechanical)? gadget in those?

Of course investigate pilots background and possible motives and problemes too. But sabotage comes to mind first.
Technicians, previous pilots, gonna a be a BIG search.

    An other PS:
HOW INCREDIBLY STUPID TO PUT THOSE SWITCHES BELOW THAT BIG LEVERS!!!!

    An other Boeing stupidity!!!
What will happens is that every time you move the big levers by hand you touch those switches
Then the 'locking', probably a tiny piece of plastic or metal?, will get a hit. And then silently the locking will fail and when moving the levers the switch will follow
    your arm or cloth movement.
These switches (are incredibly important) should be ABOVE the levers.
    Or even in the ceiling.
    My take

Insanely BAD DESIGN if such critical switches
    are easy to "bump".

We're reminded of the engine-arming switch on
the Eagle LEM ... which someone broke off just
by turning around a little wrong. Hell, all the
old sci-fi movies had panels of long extended
switches, next to the bank of analog dials and
    randomly blinking lights :-)

Critical switches should be in bump-resistant positions,
    and preferably a little recessed.

Note new angle on this 'evidence' :

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/07/12/air-india-crash-report-is-cover-up-say-families-of-victims/

PROBABLY not true however - blaming two pilots
does not open Boeings' DEEP POCKET.

    Can't quantify that.

But, general rule, make CRITICAL functions
DIFFICULT to engage by accident - or even
    by intent.

This may STILL be a suicide/terrorist incident.

See the screen shot from the Guardian link. Assuming the Guardian is a bit
more factual than usual you don't turn the fuel off by mistake. Supposedly
both switches were on in the wreckage. An emergency turbine power source
    was reportedly deployed also.

On AFTER the crash ... the Cap may have
    countermanded. Alas, Too Late. Engines
starved for TOO long to recover.

Big crashes are often very hard to analyze.

Clearly, there oft seem to be POLITICS involved
    as well .........

My quick guess - the co-pilot doomed them. It
might have been a mistake, or intentional.
The angle is that victims fams WANT it to
be Boeing's fault - DEEP pockets.

Boeing does NOT have the best rep of late.
Way too much 'DEI' politics there. Crappy
    safety/engineering inspections.

But that does NOT make this particular incident
    Boeings fault.

From all the video/evidence, the plane kinda
lost power JUST as it was taking off - not
    before. SOMEBODY flipped a switch.

Was the switch TOO easy to toggle ??? Here
I'm gonna have to defer to people with good
    experience with this particular aircraft.

This is from a reader comment on the Moon of Alabama blog:

OT but topical because, if correct, has devastating implications for US
trade as Boeing is a very large portion of US exports by dollar.

Last night I watched a video by an active 787 Captain ~4,700 hrs in
type, discuss Air India Flight 171 and the fuel cut-off switches. He was
very adamant that a 787 pilot could not accidentally have tripped the
spring loaded detent switches and...this very important...it could not
have been done by a single pilot in the time frame now proposed.

The implication being, either both pilots chose to commit suicide together...let that sink in or...the switches which are electronically
tied to the flight control system were activated electronically. Dunno
if the latter is possible but, the flight data recorder and it's data
set better have a tight chain of custody as Boeing Commercial Airplanes existence is on the line.
