Poland's president has greenlighted a plan to establish July 11
as a National Day of Remembrance for Poles killed by
Ukrainian nationalists during and after World War II.
. . .
In Europe NOTHING is simple. Over time everybody
invaded, and was invaded, exploited and enslaved,
by everybody. Back and forth, over and over.
There was a Polish Empire for awhile, it grabbed
a lot of land, well into Ukraine. Around WW2 the
Ukrainians decided to grab back. We're talking
all the usual death and nasties and lingering
hard feelings of war here.
Politicians can exploit any shards of history they
want to build attitudes, to justify policies. If
China wants to bomb Japan, it'll bring up what
Japan did in WW2.
