• NOT Good - Will "Handmaid" Rules Become Necessary For 1st-World ?

Musk (and others) aren't wrong here. 1st-world women -
be it Japan or USA or EU - are kind of refusing to
have babies. This is rapidly contracting the cultures.
Soon "Japan" will just be a label on a map - an island -
not anything to do with a specific cultural tradition.

Thing is "1st world" seems to cover all future issues,
so women no longer think they NEED lots of children to
be their little private army for survival.

I can perfectly understand why women don't WANT to
be mass-breeder units ... but that DOES have some
    serious broader consequences.

My prediction ... all contraception methods will
be outlawed, 'rape' criteria will be relaxed. The
goal will be lots more native residents.

    Sorry.

    Sorry.

I think the bigger problem is the replacement migration.

I do not believe that we will disappear. We are the product of
thousands of generations of living creature who all succesfully
reproduced. It is in our DNA to reproduct and thrive, quite literally.
That instinct is baked in, and won't just dissapear.

The panic is not required, and would lead to an overreaction. The
bigger threat is governments replacing the population with imports,
    thereby exacerbating the problem.

Allow those who choose not to have children not have them. They will
breed themselves out, and the next generation will consist of those who
DID choose to have children. Selection will work in favour of those who
will continue the race. Those who think going childless, they have no
future. Those who think we can just replace ourselves with others from
other nations, they too have no future.

The problem is cultural, and culture can be changed. Resources can be allocated as well. It will sort itself out as long as we don't actively
try to prevent nature from doing her work.

    What we should do is

1: Stop immigration. Immigration increases competition and density,
which would supress birth rates. It is hard to think of population
decline, when the housing market is stuffed and there is a shortage,
there are hundreds of thousands of people being added to your country
every year and the roads are full.

2: Increase wages. This gives women an option to not work. Wages WILL increase of there is no influx of labour as a result of 1.

3: Culturally give women who have children STATUS. Our culture elevates
the "girl boss" and CEO, not the mother. Women no longer have status,
nor roles in our society as women.

Nations, societies, cultures, don't exist with a population
of just ten really horny people. All they ever had will
crumble well before then. How soon before Japan is just
the old name of an island, not a distinct state of mind ?

The problem is cultural, and culture can be changed. Resources can be allocated as well. It will sort itself out as long as we don't actively

1: Stop immigration. Immigration increases competition and density,

decline, when the housing market is stuffed and there is a shortage,
there are hundreds of thousands of people being added to your country
every year and the roads are full.

Most 1st-gen immigrants are used for 'menial labor' jobs,
a sort of glorified serfdom. For the first time in human
history we have the option of replacing much of that segment
with 'robots'. Won't need serfs, won't need slaves, won't
need all those foreign humans. What this new option spawns
further down the road we can't properly guess yet.

2: Increase wages. This gives women an option to not work. Wages WILL increase of there is no influx of labour as a result of 1.

Alas, 'robots' can replace LOTS of people in LOTS of jobs.
What's the wage for doing nothing, for being obsolete ?
I've yet to hear of any nation with a good PLAN for all
those obsoleted people. Vast welfare slums ? Turn them
    into fertilizer ?

3: Culturally give women who have children STATUS. Our culture elevates
the "girl boss" and CEO, not the mother. Women no longer have status,
nor roles in our society as women.

"Mothers" get more or less 'status' depending on where you are.
Do remember that wars, plagues, famine and such used to take
a much heavier toll. "Hero mothers" replenished the population.
However that doesn't mean they WANTED to have nine kids, or
even ONE kid. Now they have that option - and I've actually
heard women diss 'breeders' with a bunch of kids.
