Canada's middle power myths give way to harsh realities

With Canada Day upon us, Ottawa faces unprecedented challenges
to the nation's sovereignty and prosperity, and a stark
reality: The international order that enabled Canada’s
middle power diplomacy for seven decades is dead.

The return of great power competition, exemplified by recent
American economic coercion, persistent Chinese economic
pressure and foreign interference demands a fundamental
transformation of Canadian foreign policy. The choice is
not between independence and alignment, but between
    strategic adaptation and irrelevance.

The events of the past six months have crystallized what
should have been obvious for years. When U.S. President
Donald Trump imposed his 25% tariffs while musing about
Canadian statehood, he merely articulated what American
actions have long implied: that Washington views allied
relationships through a transactional lens where power
    asymmetries define outcomes.

    . . .

Canada's new tact is to sell itself as a valuable
power but NOT as an actual part of the USA.

This is probably the best tact, best solution.

Frankly, the USA doesn't WANT Canada as a new state,
it's WAY too 'socialist' and Too Different on many
    levels. Bad fit.

Looks like Denmark/EU is now taking major interest
in Greenland too ... they need to park a few mil
ships, even if small, in Greenlandic ports so
any attempt to grab Greenland = attack on the EU.
Danish FUNDING for Greenland is now moving up
sharply as well ... they'd kind-of been the
    forgotten children.

I don't think Trump REALLY wants to absorb Canada
or Greenland - it's more a tact to get better
trade with Canada and more EU involvement with
Greenlandic defenses. But, he can't SAY so.
Sometimes a veiled "threat" is more useful than
    years of 'diplomacy'.

"Diplomacy" - what has it BECOME ??? It's mostly
a venue for politicians to vent lots of hot air
and seem relevant while, really, doing NOTHING
AT ALL. We've had over a decade of 'diplomacy'
with Iran ... and it's just used the delays to
further and further enrich uranium. It already
has enough 60+ percent to make Hiroshima-type
bombs. Likely it has a little even higher grade,
a good 'sparkplug' for even better bombs. We let
    them get TOO far.

There is one member of the US Congress who is
a nuclear physicist - and he made this all VERY
plain yesterday in a NewsNation interview. Also
mentioned that such weapons don't require planes
or missiles - can arrive Fed-Ex or by a number
of other routes. Likely we WON'T see them.
This is 1940s tech - EASY these days. The
Hiroshima bomb was barely 50% ....

In short, "the danger" is NOT over. Extreme
intel efforts inside Iran are going to be
necessary. And yea, as Trump warned, MORE
    attacks MAY be required soon.

The pro-Islamist factions in the USA/EU *want*
Iran to have nukes, to be able to threaten the
world. That'll teach the horrible awful West ...

Iranian rads are FANATICS to the extreme. They
encourage martyrdom to strike at the infidels.
Thermonuke several Iranian cities - they DON'T
CARE - it's all sacrifice for Allah.

DO kinda expect a big dirty flash in a few
US cities before the end of the year. Likely
a couple EU/UK cities too. This is the new
world paradigm. It's WW-III ... just not as
    most commonly envisioned.
