    "FM", Steely Dan ...

I've turned my car radio OFF.

It's now far more commercials than content.

    Greed ruins all.

I'm way old enough to remember - full album
broadcasts .. about two minutes of mellow ads
in between. They DID stay in biz. It was a
    "mission" back then.

Most of the streaming internet radio stations keep the commercials to a minimum, you could consider that route for your car. Even adding an
aftermarket receiver if your car isn't so equipped.

The big city terrestrials can pack the commercials in especially during
    rush hour.

I'm happy with my CD's then you don't get any commercials at all.

That happened with TV too. Used to be minor plugs for the sponsors often
done inline by the show's stars. Now if you can even find the old shows
they clip out something else, leave in the old commercials, and add several
    for the new sponsors.

Current shows, even on streaming have minimal content at best. The rest
are commercials added between what used to be called show breaks.

Smart Phones are the worst combination of both. Targeted ads all the time
for what the sponsors want you to see/hear. If you're lucky sometimes
they'll stumble on content you like for a few seconds.

The viewing/listening public are so dumbed down compared to past
generations. Few people can handle conversations these days.

I remember the early days of cable teevee (installed by a family more
    wealthy than us).

    The promise was "no commercials".

    :-D

And on a computer? Holy fan noise! And you start reading the article
and another ad rolls in and you have to scroll back to the text.

    Fucking web developers.

Every night at midnight, the New Album Hour. 96 Rock played a new
rock album at midnight every night. Uninterrupted and with no
    commercials.

I can remember taping the "world premiere" of Born in the USA off the
air at midnight back in 1984.

My car is 25 years old, no satellite (wouldn't pay
anyhow, I don't drive around that much), no USB - but
it DOES have a CD player which I've never tried to use.
