• "Alligator Alcatraz" - Florida Creating Swamp Camp For Illegals

In the fight to secure the US border, immigration and
customs enforcement (ICE) has deployed an unexpected
    new line of defence.

Construction has begun on an 1,000-bed detention centre
for undocumented migrants in the middle of the Florida
everglades national park that state officials have nicknamed
    “Alligator Alcatraz”.

The facility, built on the site of an abandoned runway,
is designed to temporarily house migrants and has drawn
comparisons to the infamous island prison because of the
thousands of alligators and pythons living in the flooded
    grasslands that surround it.

The detention centre is the brainchild of James Uthmeier,
the state attorney general and Trump ally who last week
shared a video suggesting the area’s dangerous wildlife
    will function as natural security.

“Alligator Alcatraz: the one-stop shop to carry out
president Trump’s mass deportation agenda,” Mr Uthmeier said.

    . . .

Some, including the local native tribes, don't
    especially like this.

I've found the site on Maps - it's WAY out in
the swamp. Escape attempts have a high chance
of being intercepted, or fatal. The only current
use for the runway is as a practice strip for
    future airline pilots.

My GUESS is that being held there would NOT be
very pleasant ... hundreds of mosquito bites
per minute most likely if you go outdoors. As
most prospective inmates are from Down South
the heat/humidity would probably be 'familiar'
    however.

DHS assumes complete responsibility for keeping all the critters away
    from prisonners. (8th Amendment)

I remember the late Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin talking about alligators:

Have many people escaped from ICE? It sounds to me like they want wild
animals to eat prisonners. My guess about Florida is it is high humidity
and high temperature. Without expensive air conditioning. If prisonners
keel over with heart attacks, not DHS's problem.

$450 million per year to build and maintain in this godforsaken swamp
when another facility could be built in a different location for much
    less.

More of Trump "looking after your tax dollars."

The peckerwood Republican congressman who thought this silliness up
    brought some bacon home though.

Umm ... not necessarily cheaper. First off, the closer
to the coast the higher the property price AND chances
of the NIMBYs delaying things forever.

Second, 'security' ... the vast swamp is its own big
security fence whereas more layers/tech would be
required if closer to population centers.

Yes, you *can* trudge through the swamp and there's
only SO much threat from alligators and pythons, but
it would be SLOW-going trying to wade through all
the muck and weeds. That's more time with a FLIR-
equipped chopper to find escapees before they could
    make it to civilization.

More of Trump "looking after your tax dollars."

Yep. Good job Don & DeSantis ! It WILL save money
    and can be implemented faster.

The peckerwood Republican congressman who thought this silliness up
    brought some bacon home though.

    Bacon *well earned* perhaps ...

Texas should consider something similar out in
its desert-like western section. Put it on top
of one of the high steep mesas - more a 'security
    plunge' than 'security fence'.

Fuck the Constitution. You want cruel and unusual punishment even though
cruel and unusual punishment is illegal.
