"No wars under Trump!" they said.

Never mind that there were 2200+ drone strikes in Trump's first two years
in his first term. And Trump revoked the rule about reporting deaths
    by drone strike.

    | Although the stated goal of Israel's operation is to set
    | back the Iranian nuclear efforts, there are reasons to be
    | skeptical about this objective. Long before the current
    | wave of strikes, U.S. intelligence officials and other
    | analysts had pointed to the limited ability of Israeli
    | strikes to destroy or meaningfully set back Iran's nuclear
    | program. Unlike nuclear facilities that Israel has struck
    | in the past in Iraq and Syria, the Iranian program is more
    | advanced, fortified, and distributed across a far greater
    | territory. Key Iranian nuclear facilities like Natanz and
    | Fordow are also built under layers of fortified concrete
    | and granite--in some cases literally built into
    | mountains--rendering them impossible to destroy by any
    | known conventional Israeli military capacity.
    |
    | The likely inability of Israel to fully destroy the
    | program, despite being able to strike at various targets
    | inside Iran, has led some military experts to conclude that
    | the real goal of any attack is simply to fire the starting
    | gun for a larger regional war with no determined endpoint.
    | Such a war would potentially drag the U.S. in as a
    | participant, including to defend Israel from Iranian
    | retaliation, even at a time when segments of the Trump
    | administration and its domestic political base are
    | expressing intense frustration over fighting continued
    | conflicts in the Middle East.

    | Third, a war in the Middle East that Trump has no control
    | over--and not much influence with either belligerent--makes
    | HIM look weak. He said he would get a nuclear deal with
    | Israel and Iran, but that seems increasingly unlikely. He
    | wants to be the center of attention all the time and hates
    | to look weak. If Israel wiped out Iran's nuclear capability
    | without Trump's help, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
    | Netanyahu would look strong and Trump would look weak. If
    | both Democrats and Republicans come to see Trump as weak,
    | that could affect the rest of his presidency.
    |
    | Fourth, at first, the official U.S. line was that Israel
    | went it alone, without the U.S. knowing about it in
    | advance. Now Trump is trying to back out of that and is
    | saying he knew about the Israeli attack all along. Not even
    | knowing about something this big would make Trump look
    | incompetent and out of the loop as well as weak. He
    | certainly does not want that.
    |
    | Fifth, the U.S. could get dragged into the war one way or
    | another. This could put Trump in a bind, with isolationists
    | like Tucker Carlson pulling him one way and hardliners like
    | Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) pulling him the other way. Whatever he
    | did would alienate some of Trump's allies and could
    | fracture the Republicans.

    | In speaking of Palestinians under Israeli bombardment in
    | Gaza and in encouraging Iranians to flee Tehran, he has
    | shown a sort of childish cruelty combined with bombast and
    | ineffectuality. This has been the pattern since he returned

    |
    | In Iran, Netanyahu has declared that a secondary Israeli
    | aim is to provoke a popular uprising to overthrow the
    | Iranian Government, but this is unlikely to happen. Like
    | Saddam Hussein in Iraq in 1990 after defeat in the Gulf
    | War, the Iranian authorities retain a monopoly of organised

    | Gaza into ruins, Israel has not yet displaced Hamas as
    | rulers of the tiny enclave, though 57,000 Palestinians are
    | dead.
    |
    | Trump's crazed antics have so far only exacerbated the Gaza

Yes, there's a good number of Americans who try to forget how many
dictators the USA put into power in the late 20th Century.

In Iran, the USA attacked in 1953: the CIA and MI6 backed a coup d'état
which overthrew Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister, Mohammad Mossadegh and put the Shah in charge. This attack was ultimately the underpinnings of their populist uprising in 1979 ("Embassy Hostage Crisis").

Now in mid-2025, the USA may go on the offensive militarily again,
possibly tonight (aircraft with KC's were flying earlier today); the speculation is B2 Bombers from Diego Garcia to drop deep penetration
bombs on deep nuclear enrichment facilities in Iran, with F22s, F35s &
    others for air support.
