. . .
The article goes on a bit - still worth reading.
Short version ... an el-Nino in the Pacific set
up a low-wind situation in the Atlantic. This
allowed the surface water to warm to an unusual
degree. A "cold blob" near Greenland then steered
the effects into the UK and Europe.
No, this is NOT the Denis Quaid plot, the
North Atlantic Current (known by several
names) is not collapsing quite yet.
However, it DOES show how remote weather systems
can have strong effects half a world away.
Will this repeat ? Probably not, or at least not
exactly.
IF the 'North Atlantic Current' IS compromised
one day then it still won't be the movie plot
for sure ... but it WOULD freeze-up the UK and
Norway/Sweden pretty badly - VERY short summers,
agriculture pretty much ruined.
(note to Euro readers : alt.fan.rush-limbaugh ...
even though he's been dead for a long time his
group is a sort of center point for more
'conservative' thinkers (and ranters and
conspiracy theorists) in the USA so I usually
include it. Limbaugh was a bit extreme, though
generally correct more often than not)
