Mary Miller says she’s ‘deeply troubled’ by Sikh man leading
House floor prayer in deleted xenophobic post
The Republican member of Congress initially misidentified the
man — who was invited to the House by another member — as Muslim.
. . .
First off, if you're going to let ONE kind of religion/prayer
into a govt event then you have to let ANY into it with very
little prejudice. Fair is fair, govt isn't supposed to take
sides in this.
Second, a Sikh is not a Moslem. Considerably different
religion. Ignore the turbans.
Third, what bothers me MOST is the instantaneous degree
Miller FREAKED OUT about this. She sounds like an ISIS
rad, just a different side of the coin. We should expect
better from our reps, a certain balance and dignity.

Fuck minor spelling issues.

Mostly because they are mistaken, IMHO ...
However religion IS an ultra-persistent meme. It
is NOT going to go away - maybe until at least
some space aliens show up in force. People will
bow, and KILL, for their religions. NOTHING new
here.
The main POINT here is that at least the US Govt
and constitution is mandated to NOT take any sides
in the religion biz. If govt events want a preacher
then they at least have to alternate religions to
make it all fair. This will even include "Satanists"
at some times ... despite attempts to pretend it's
not a religion-thing.
OTHER nations - UK comes to mind - are NOT wired to
be so religiously fair.

The UK certainly doesn't seem to have a problem shoving "East Indians" and their religion in your face. UK males have surrendered it seems.

The UK technically has a 'state religion', C-of-E, while
the USA strictly forbids that.
As for the on-the-ground situation in the UK about
shoving 'east Indian' religion in everyone's faces
THAT I cannot address. Ask some Brits. Hindu and
Sikh seem relatively 'ok' so far as religions go,
but I don't like The State trying to force them
on anybody.
