    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025/05/31/us-plans-to-fight-off-a-chinese-invasion-of-taiwan/

A soldier careens into the briefing tent of Cross Functional
Team (CFT) Taiwan, barely able to catch his breath.

“Attention on the floor!” he shouts. “Sorry to barge in, sir,
but you’ll want to hear this.”

Chinese ships have begun to cross the Taiwan Strait “with
    full intention to invade”.

Chaos breaks out in the command centre, where specialists
had been outlining recent operations. Sirens blare, soldiers
pick up rucksacks, plastic chairs are pushed aside.

Over the tree-line, hostile drones whirr into view. As troops
hustle a visiting congressional delegation to an evacuation
point, they swoop overhead and drop munitions.

Ear-splitting explosions send plumes of smoke into the air.
People fall by the side of the road, screaming.

So begins the long-feared war between the world’s two largest
militaries – or at least, a drill simulating the event at
the 25th capability exercise of the US Special Forces at
    Fort Bragg army base.

    . . .

Thing is, THAT kind of "invasion" seems unlikely.

China has already practiced, more than once, the
path it will take - a naval/air blockade. Run them
down, starve them out, ruin biz. Mostly only THREAT
of violence will do the job, nobody, indeed no
commercial interests, will want to cross the PRC
    Line Of Death.

A physical surge of PRC troops, that'd come much
    later.

Taiwan is NOT self-sufficient ... esp in 'energy'.
It has no oil or coal or gas. Taiwan has only a
few nuke plants, not enough to sustain the island.
Greenie stuff cannot be implemented on any sane
timetable. FOOD can be grown there - but ENOUGH
food, SOON enough in an emergency ?

Of note it has been reported here and there that
the Taiwan govt has literally sabotaged most of
    the ultra-tech chip-making machines and facilities ...
there's some kind of thermite bomb in them now. If
the PRC thinks it will corner the chip market by
grabbing Taiwan, ain't happening - scorched
    earth.

In short, Taiwan - while very valuable - is NOT in
a strong security position. The US Mil practices
for a sudden direct invasion, but that's not how
it's gonna go. Xi is smart.

BEST option, station US/UK/EU warships and such
in Taiwan. That way any action against Taiwan is
an attack on all involved nations. It's a kind
    of 'diplomatic' shield.

    Trump will not defend Taiwan.

Just like he would not defend
Afghanistan or Syria or Sudan or
or the EU. He has repeatedly said
    America should retreat from the
world stage, abandon all our allies
and let Russia/China run the world.

    Trump considered complete withdrawal
of US troops from South Korea, former
    defense chief says
