There IS some sense to this ... there have now
been many cases of Chinese "students' who were
actually PRC spies. They report, they insert
spyware ... not great.
MAY only be one percent - but WHICH one percent ?
We can't tell until the damage is already done.
The flip is the other 99 percent ... we'd kinda
LIKE Chinese kiddies to experience, learn from,
the US system and society. Culturally undermines
the PRCs dictatorship paradigm.
In 1942, FDR decided to move out - basically
imprison - the west coast Japanese population.
SOME were in a position to be blackmailed ...
their relatives still in Japan would be threatened
and thus turn their relatives here into spies,
reluctant or not.
The OTHER half was the public SENTIMENT about
"Japs" ... many probably WOULD have been lynched
or burnt-out by hate mobs. FDR and friends spent
some effort into 'rehabilitating' the Japanese-
American image - and all-JA army units were VERY
effective in the European war ... actually EARNED
their hype.
The flip on the flip ... China is now a MAJOR
sci-tech powerhouse. WE could convince some of
those students to be OUR agents :-)
