SOMEBODY didn't know how HIGH the damned ship
was, or about river/tide levels.
Not a TINY miss either ... looks like at least
25-35 FEET of the sail masts hit the bridge
judging by the videos.

No, a wooden ship wasn't gonna do much damage
to the bridge - thank goodness - but for the
ship it was a DISASTER.
One might conjecture that Mexico's first woman and Semite President was
told by people in the Mexican "intelligence community" that she could
bring down the Brooklyn Bridge if the wooden masts struck the bridge at
some critical point, much like how the Francis Scott Key bridge in
Baltimore was destroyed a little over a year ago, and by doing so she
could "get back" at Orange Man Bad for slowing down Mexico's lucrative
drug smuggling and human trafficking industry and the Mexican
government's ethnic cleansing of the mestizos and Mayan Indians within
the country. Fortunately for New York and the Trump administration, her
plot failed. I think it would be a misdirection to try and put the
Mexican crew on board the sailing ship in a bad light for what was the
fault of an "engine failure" or deliberate maneuvering of the vessel by
the captain.
